Digging Deep No. 20
Topic: The Same Word
Text: John 1:2

INTRODUCTION: In our deliberation on John 1:1 was discovered some of the hidden truths of God. We found for example that why God chose the title “THE WORD” is that though we may not see Him, we can still walk with Him if we live a perfect life – Matt. 5:48. Now John 1:2 seems to be repeating what John 1:1 has already established. And since God is not a talkative, there must be a reason for this. May the Lord quicken our understanding as we dig deep into His Word. Amen.

1. What is the purpose of repetition in the scriptures? Can you give some examples of such repetitions? Genesis 41:30-32, Joshua 1:6, 7, 9,18, John 6:35, 48,51. The purpose of repetition in the scriptures is emphasis. Examples are the Lord’s charge to Joshua, the need to be born again, how to obtain eternal life, who is the Bread of the life, etc.
2. Are there any lessons for us from the repetitions to Joshua? II Cor. 10:4, Ephesians 6:11-12, I Tim 1:18, I Tim.6:12, II Tim. 2:4. Moses in a way, stands for Jesus and Joshua stands for us. Moses never actually took part in battle but Joshua did. Therefore, we are called to be soldiers, though our Lord did not sight wars during his lifetime.
3. What is the significance of “The same” in John 1:2, Exodus 3:14, John 14:6, John 15:1, II Cor.11:3-4, Gal. 1:8-9. The same means no counterfeit acceptable. In other words, there may be other Jesus, Christ, ways or vines but the only acceptable one is the one who had been with the father from the begging. This is to warn us against false religions.
4. Who are the best friends of the Lord? Why? Psalms 127:3, Matt. 19:14, Matt. 21:15-16. The best friends of the Lord are children. Because they know how to praise God.
5. What then must we do to enter the kingdom of God? Matt. 10:15, Luke 18:17, John 4:23-24. We must become like small children. Because God wants people who will praise Him wholeheartedly, like children to be in heaven.

CONCLUSION:Have you ever wondered how old you are compared to the mountains? Then how old are you compared to the one who had existed in the beginning of beginnings? You are nothing but a child to Him. Why not come to Him in full surrender and claim all the love, affections, protection etc. that is always bestowed on a new-born babe?.
