DIGGING DEEP 42 Topic: Generosity – Part 2

INTRODUCTION: In the first part of generosity, we learnt that:

a) The Lord Himself is generous in all ways including mercy, goodness, loving kindness etc.
b) The Lord is not only generous, but constantly so and
c) The Lord expected us to be generous also:

i. To Him
ii. To His people who are in need and
iii. To those who are sincerely poor, including our enemies.

In this concluding part of generousity, we want to see the blessings of generousity and the principles of giving.

1. The Lord has special blessings for those who are generous. These blessings include prosperity. Divine glory, overflowing sufficiency and rewards in the life to come – Psalms 41:1, Proverbs 3:9-10, Proverbs 11:25, 22:9, Proverbs 28:27, Isaiah 58:7-10, Malachi 3:10, Proverbs 11:25, Luke 6:38, 14:14, Luke 18:29-30.
2. The Divine principles for giving are clearly set out. We are to give according to our ability, gladly without deceit, freely, from the heart, regularly and often secretly, Deut. 2:68-69, Deut.16:17, Matt. 5:42, Acts 1:29, II Cor. 8:1-15, Mark 12:44, II Cor. 9:7, Acts 5:1-2, Matt. 10:8, Luke 6:38, 12:33, Exodus 25:2, Romans 12:1, Phil.4:18, Hebrews 13:16, I Peter 2:5, Romans 12:8, I Corinthians 16:2, Hosea 6:13, Amos 5:22, Malachi 1:8, II Corinthians 9:6, Matt.6:1-3, Malachi 3:3.

Therefore, we see that if we give to the Lord, to His saints and to the needy, we shall be abundantly blessed. However, we must give as the Lord directs so that our “left hand should not know what our right hands is doing. May one giving earns us rich dividends not only in this world but also in the next to come in Jesus Name.
